My wife pointed out to me as we headed into our annual week Vacation Bible School (VBS) at the United Methodist Church in Mt. Vernon– that this was our 10th year volunteering. My wife has volunteered as a Crew leader, and decorating crew and our daughters have grown up to help as assistant crew leaders to crew leaders during this time. I have watch my good friends children grow up through this special week of learning about Jesus, and reminders of his lesson. For example our Song Leader Jim and Julie Baty and their awesome children growing into fine young adults.
I have volunteered my photography services during this time. Taking candid photos to capture the memories is part of the job; but also taking photos every night for the Spotlight Video that reinforces the Bible point for the evening. Group VBS creates the program but it takes all the great people with a passion for Christ to bring VBS to life for the kids. The extra special thing about our VBS is we do it in conjunction with First Presbyterian Church of Mt. Vernon and Seeds of Faith Lutheran Church, exemplifying that it takes a village to raise our youth. The theme for this year is Weird Animals, which did seem a weird title for VBS but the lesson was Jesus Loves You, no matter what…whether you feel left out, are different, don’t understand , do wrong, or afraid. It was great to see our youth pour out their love in the songs but also by getting behind our Missions. First was to bring in their quarters to help provide clean water to kids in India, but also school supplies for kids in Mt Vernon and Lisbon, showed their compassion and generosity in our little community. Thanks to all for a great week and see you next July!
